2010 EcoDoc schedule
EcoDoc is a 3 week program for filmmakers and environmentalists to realize and communicate their vision to the Victoria public, to BC and to the world. MediaNet, presents a week of seminars and workshops for the EcoDoc participants and to the community.

We are proud to have MediaNet members and Media Partners join with us to bring a mentored filmmaking program to the Victoria community.

The registration fee for the program is $175 (or $150 for MediaNet members) and guarantees participants a space in all the workshops as well as access to MediaNet equipment and editing facilities (rental costs included in the registration fee). As well, participants will receive ongoing technical and production mentoring. There are a limited number of spaces available in this program.

2 - 4 pm - MediaNet and EcoDoc orientation
Meet your fellow documentarians, become familiar with the schedule, how the program works and what MediaNet's equipment policies are.

2 PM Cyrus Block - Documentary Production Techniques(EcoDoc participants only) Cinematographer Cyrus Bloc will share his insights and knowledge gathered during a lifetime of working on documentaries, feature films and broadcast series info at IMDB

Nichole Sorochan (time and date to be confirmed)- Activist Video Workshop (EcoDoc participants only) EcoActivist, filmmaker and Social Media mentor Nichole Sorochan shares her experiences using video not just for creating documentaries but as well as a tool for social change

7 PM - Blue Gold - the Fight for Fish Lake. Karen Hurley will talk after the screening about the films effect on the environemental panel and how video and the impact of video on politial and social processes

Tom Shandel - creating the documentary: a producers view (open to the public) From "The Corporation" (1999) to "America, Love It or Leave It" (1990), from the founding of medicare ("Bitter Medicine" 1983) to "Kerouac" (1997) Tom Shandel has been making documentaries that take the pulse of the times. Nichole Sorochan/Kirk Schwartz- Story editing session 10 am to 5 pm (EcoDoc participants only) MediaNet's Technical Director Kirk Schwartz and environmentalist, filmmaker and environmental activist Nichole Sorochan team up to help you refine and develop your story

Images of the future in films. All the dead earth images are robbing us of hope for the future. This translates into reduced action in the present to protect natural and agricultural spaces. Discussion with the filmmakers on whether, or not, filmmakers have a responsibility to contribute to sustainable and just futures.
During the 3 week period of EcoDoc all participants will have access to MediaNet's production and editing facilites and the technical support of MediaNet with Mentors Kirk Schwartz, Scott Amos and Anna Malkin. Participants will be guided in working with Final Cut and Final Cut Express as well as support for audio and video aquisition.
Production ends 3 Oct
Screening Tues 2 Oct at 7 PM -
Victoria Events Centre (Everybody welcome - admission by donation). Come see the work done by local Victorians about local issues in the friendly atmosphere of the Victoria Event Center, 1415 Broad St
